⭕As part of the awareness-raising and educational role that academic institutions play in supporting societal issues and promoting national awareness, and under the auspices of Professor Dr. Khaled El-Darandaly, President of Zagazig University, and Professor Dr. Helal Afifi, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, the Faculty of Specific Education organized an educational seminar on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, entitled "Digital Awareness and its Impact on National Security." This seminar was held in cooperation with the State Information Service, represented by the General Directorate of Media for East Delta and the Sharqia Governorate Media Department.
⭕The seminar witnessed a distinguished attendance of faculty members and students from various academic departments within the college. The speakers included Professor Dr. Akmal Shawky, Dean of the Faculty, and Mr. Desouki Abdullah, Director General of the General Directorate of Media for East Delta and Director of the Zagazig Media Complex. The seminar featured a scholarly and awareness-raising dialogue that addressed the dimensions of digital awareness and its increasing impact on the stability of societies and their national security in light of the rapid development of modern communication technologies and social media platforms.
The seminar addressed several important topics related to the concept of digital literacy, the importance of responsible use of technology and social media, and highlighted the dangers of rumors and misinformation that may aim to destabilize societies. It also emphasized the role of university students in countering these threats through critical thinking and verifying information sources.
In his address at the seminar, Professor Dr. Akmal Shawky, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, affirmed that digital literacy has become a fundamental pillar in building a secure, knowledge-based society capable of confronting contemporary challenges. He pointed out that the irresponsible use of the digital space can pave the way for the spread of rumors and misinformation that threaten national security and social stability.
He further explained that Egyptian universities play a pivotal role in disseminating a culture of digital literacy among young people through seminars and educational events that contribute to raising awareness of the dangers of the irrational use of technology and support students' ability to engage consciously with digital content and analyze information scientifically and responsibly. ⭕For his part, Professor Desouki Abdullah, Director General of the General Administration of Media for East Delta and Director of the Zagazig Media Complex, emphasized that spreading digital awareness among youth is a national imperative in light of the challenges facing the digital world. He pointed out that rumors and misinformation have become among the most prominent tools of fourth-generation warfare, which targets the stability of societies.
⭕He also highlighted the crucial role of educational institutions in educating students on how to deal with digital content, distinguish between accurate and false information, and promote responsible use of social media. This contributes to building a conscious generation capable of protecting their society and supporting its stability.
⭕At the conclusion of the seminar, participants stressed the importance of continued cooperation between academic institutions and community awareness bodies to disseminate a culture of digital literacy and enhance social responsibility among young people. This contributes to building a more aware society, better equipped to face digital challenges, and strengthens the role of universities as beacons of knowledge and thought in serving the nation and protecting its security and stability.
